Prose for Pondering

We only had one response to last week’s quote inspiration, but it is amazing! I offer you this week’s drizzle, with a tissue warning, you’re going to need it.

The Promise
By kellancougar
I got a call today.
What she said took me back to that weekend we spent in the mountains. Snuggled up in front of the fire, you told me to reach for the stars, let nothing hold me back, not even you. I argued that you were the brightest star in my life, and you laughed, telling me I was deluded.
Leaning back into the curve of your neck, I knew that my life was with you wherever it took us. The needs of the one were outnumbered by the needs of the two. I had no life without you in it; you were the sun around which my world revolved. Your warmth of spirit, your generosity and your endless capacity for love were what shaped me, made me strong. I was at peace when I was in your arms.
The weather had turned, and it snowed hard that first night. We didn’t care; the real world slipped away as we made long, languorous love in front of the crackling fire. The sounds of pleasure you made beneath me were the perfect music to my ears and I needed no other. To me, your gasps and moans were more cherished than even the beauty of Debussy; eliciting each sound from you was like discovering the perfect melody over and over again. Hearing my name fall from your perfect lips was pure poetry as I loved you with my mouth, my body, my soul. Our kisses would’ve made Venus herself weep as our tongues worshipped each other, each indelibly claiming the other. And when I lay beneath you I knew there was nowhere I would rather be; heaven was here on earth as your hard body moved rhythmically with mine, your eyes professing your love for me eternally as we breathed each others’ air and reached for the stars together.
You felt you were holding me back, stopping me from being what I was destined to be. I told you that fate decided my destiny the day I met you. For some reason this made you sad, as you believed that our meeting had stunted my ambition and made me settle for less than I was worth. We fought a little about that and I told you repeatedly that my life was with you, belonged to you. Before we met, my piano was an escape from reality, a way to disappear deep into myself. I had no need of that now. I played only for pleasure. You were scared; scared that you wouldn’t be enough me for me and that I would resent you for holding me back. How wrong you were. You inspired me, became my muse, and I wrote so many pieces all dedicated to you and my overwhelming love for you.
I only wrote that letter because you insisted, and because I would do anything to make you happy and see that smile that lit up my life. I never expected a response. It was unthinkable, as was the thought of ever leaving you. But you made me promise and so I did.
I will be joining the symphony on their next tour, Jasper. I got the confirmation letter today and I was desperate to tell you, knowing how happy and proud you would be of me, my love.
But I got a call today.
“Edward, this is Kate from the hospice. I’m so very sorry but your husband passed away during the night. Jasper’s at peace now.”
Noisy, wrenching sobs escape me as I fall to the floor, my world collapsing. I wasn’t there with you, and now I never can be again. You never told me how sick you were until it was too late, and I couldn’t care for you all by myself. And now, somehow, I have to go on without you.  I promised you, and I will never forget that promise.
Goodnight, my beautiful Texan. Our music will live on with me forever.
I promise you.

I can’t thank kellancougar enough for her submission! I’ve already encouraged her to continue it, if she does I’ll be sure to let you know!

Looking to write more? There are always great contests going on in the Fandom!

A group of friends and I got together and set up The Love, Actually Contest. This is the perfect contest for those writers that are uncomfortable with writing lemons, because we don’t want them. That’s right, you read correctly! NO LEMONS!  The other judges and I are looking for love stories. The real twist? The stories must also be non-canon pairings. Ever wonder what would have happened if Jacob had imprinted on Rosalie when he chucked the dog bowl at her head?  Now you can write it! Hope you’ll consider an entry.

A second great contest coming up is being run by the lovely ladies right here at TwFicReviews.  There is than those men and women in uniform and their families. Soldiers, Firefighters, and Police officers risk their lives every day to keep our world a safer place. So we here at Twific Reviews think that they deserve their own contest. So "For the Love of a Man in Uniform" is born.

Check them out and let your inspiration run wild! Until next time, SMOOCHES!

Dangerous by Diana Palmer

Sunday, May 29, 2011.

Dangerous takes place in the texas town of Jacobsbille and focus on a FBI agent by the name of Kilraven and the local 911 dispatcher Winnie Sinclair. Kilraven is your typical mysterious federal agent with a haunted past. Keeping everyone, including his own brother, at arms length so that they don't see the real him or more importantly see how effected he still is by events that happened two years ago. something about Winnie just won't let him do that to her though. She knows things about him that he hasn't told anyone and he's intrigued by her.

Winnie has been attracted to Mr. Tall Dark and Mysterious since she first laid eyes on him but she isn't experienced when it comes to men and she's scarred from her own past. Abandoned by her mother and abused by her father she has trouble trusting people...all people but Kilraven apparantly. Why she trusts the man who's keeping secrets from everyone she doesn't know, but she does. There's something in his eyes that she wants to ease, a sadness she wants to erase if only Kilraven would give her the chance.

That chance comes with Kilraven finds out that Winnie's family might just be the key to solving an old and very personal case. Not only does Winnie find herself in the middle of a very dangerous federal investigation but she finds herself in the middle of a sham marriage to a man that has told her he would never return her affections. However when Winnie risks her life all in the name of finding the answers for him will his feelings change?

I picked up this book from the library on Thursday and by Friday I had all 314 pages of it read. It was one of those can't put it down books. Though I'm not really surprised with an author like Diana Palmer. Anyone who's read any of her novels wouldn't be surprised. Palmer is a multi-New York Best selling author as well as one of the top ten romance writers in America.

What I love about Palmer's writing is the fact that it's a romance novel without being completely about sex. In fact I've read several of hers where she doesn't describe the act itself at all. As a writer who doesn't particularly like to write lemons it's nice to know that even an author of Palmer's caliber still does the fade to black and is very successful at it. When you pick up one of her books you typically know two things it's going to be about cowboys and it's going to keep you interested from cover to cover.

Dangerous is part of a series called the Long Tall Texan series. All of these books share the same cast of characters but the beauty of her writing style is you don't need to read them in in any particular order for them to make sense. My first Palmer book was called another in this series called Fearless. The binding is so broken down on that book the pages are barely held together. Two pens way up for this book and it's author!

For a list of all of Palmer's books as well as information of upcoming publications visit her web page here

Pairing: Jacob and Bella
Summary from the author: Stopped from jumping off the cliff, Bella and Jacob soon begin a relationship but a mistake makes Bella flee. She returns months later with danger hot on her heels to seek the protection of the pack for her and the surprise she brings with her.
Rating: Mature
Status: WIP

Home Again by samsjazz

This story is…gut wrenching. You cry, you laugh, and fall in love with the duo of Bells and Jake, it’s really hard not to.
Basically, to get started you have to know that Bella was an idiot, she ran away and now she’s back in La Push. She’s going to have to face all her issues: whether its Victoria, Leah, Paul, and even Jake’s imprinting. The only thing is now she’s dealing with them with twin daughters.
Jake as a big bad pretty much Alpha wolf and Daddy, is adorable. Sure, he’s pretty pissed in the beginning since he didn’t know about them, but hey who wouldn’t be?  When Jake first finds out about his kids, he literally flips out.
"That's bullshit, you left without giving me a say in my children's lives and you say you did it out of love. You don't leave someone like that out of love. You fucking know that better than anyone. You know your precious leech didn't love you and that's why he left, if that why you left, you didn't love me. Why did you really leave, to go find him? But he stayed gone so you come running back to your second choice with my children in tow." He was growling out his words, but I didn't really care right now. I knew how wrong he was. My leaving had given me a lot of perspective on Edward's actions with me in the woods. I understood why he did what he did better now. Right now another comment Jacob made shot me full of anger.
The whole way through, you basically are either happy about the love Jake and Bells are sharing, or you’re crying over the love they’ve lost. Other times you can be laughing at the pack’s jokes, but over all this story just drags you in and you want to snuggle in and never leave.
When I spoke to Samsjazz, I was told an update should hopefully be sometime in the next two weeks. Moving can be a pain and once settled there will be an update. So for now, I implore you to go read the first 28 chapters and you’ll fall as in love with these two as I have.

Bet on Me by Kissa621 (@Kissa_621)

Bet on Me by Kissa621

Pairing: Jacob/Bella/Edward
Rating: M
Work in Progress, All in Human.

Summary: Who in their right mind bets on their own virginity? Innocent Bella gets herself caught up in the charms of the very gorgeous, very bad Jacob Black. Will she be able avoid him like her boyfriend asks or will she fall for his seduction? ExBxJ triangle

"Who's talking about love? I just said fuck; hot, sweaty, animalistic fucking. If you fall in love with me, that's your problem."

Bella's a junior at Forks High. She has a boyfriend, she has lots of friends, she's a cheerleader, her dad has lots of money. She has the perfect life. Until Jacob Black decides to mess with her. She makes a bet with him. A stupid bet. She can't even understand why she agreed to it. She's betting her virginity against his bike. And she's positive she will win. Because let's face it : she loves Edward. Or does she?

Jacob's a bad boy in this fic. But there's some mysteries surrounding him. Secrets that Bella don't know, and that make her misunderstands a lot. While Bella is determined to stay away from him so she won't end up making any stupid mistake, he does all he can to keep close her. And the problem is that Bella can't deny that she likes him. I just love the interaction between the two of them. Bella is extremely guilty about what she's doing, and on the other hand, she can't stop herself.

And of course, this is a Work in Progress. So of course, there are questions still unanswered, like who the hell is Claire ? I have my little idea about that. I'm just waiting for you to go read and tell me what you think of it. I also love that Jacob can be a total ass some times (even if it's, let's face it, super hot), and some times, he can be very sweet. Bella has a problem with this. She's a simple bet. She can't decide whether he's sweet because it's his nature, or just because he wants to win. I'd tend to go with the first hypothesis. YOU tell me. I'm waiting for your opinion.

Prose for Pondering
May 24, 2011

First, my abject and humble apologies for not being able to post this yesterday. Virginia Beach had some horrible storms yesterday, that took out power and internet lines all over the city. My connection was spotty, at best, and I ended up playing online via my cell phone. While fun for me, it didn’t enable me to be able to get the post up last evening. I also got to see a flying trampoline (beats a broom or a falling house anyday), snapping power lines (the sparks are cool, so long as you don’t get too close), and a beautiful 30ft tree completely destroyed (it just missed a neighbor’s house and car). Luckily, all are fine and no serious damage was done.

On to our prose inspiration!

We want to encourage writing and writers.  You never know what you are capable of until you stretch yourself. To help you stretch those writing muscles, we’ll present different sources of inspiration: a quote, a lyric, a song, a video, a prompt.  Write us a pretty little tale to go with it.  We’ll take whatcha got to offer -- a little love, some tart lemons, a pinch of angst, a dash of slash.  We’re pretty flexible.  About the only thing we don’t want to see is the obvious — rape, incest, pedophilia, bestiality.  Obviously vamp and wolf love, though are the exceptions to the rule!

What constitutes a drizzle?  Well they're a little longer than a drabble, but not quite a one shot.  They are usually between 500-1000 words, give or take a few.

Email us your entries at twificreviews@yahoo.com, or if they are a bit longer, throw it on ff.net or your favorite writing site and send us the link.

Entries or links should be received by 11:59 EST Sunday night. We will feature any entries on the next week’s post.
I’ve had this quote sitting in my computer for quite some time. It still speaks to me when I drift across it in my files.

Put that brain in gear and GO!  We’ll see you next week!

Prose for Pondering Stories 5/24

Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
Here are the drizzles for this week's inspiration:

Dreaming Wide Awake
By Mcgt
Rated - T
Pairing: Carlisle / Esme

She was dreaming about something.  I could tell by the furrow of her brow and the purse of her lips, not to mention the telltale eye movement beneath her lids.  I wished that I could reach into the recesses of her mind and see what she was imagining in her sleepy escape from our real life.  She would always tell me she didn’t remember her dreams, but sometimes her mouth would quirk up on the left side and I was left to wonder the truth in her statement.
Watching her at rest, when all was silent and peaceful were some of my most cherished moments. Her hair fanned across the pillow, arms clutching the pillow that rightfully belonged to me, yet I never had the heart to take it away if she was already hugging it when I came to bed.  Her creamy skin looked almost ethereal in the pale moonlight against the crimson pillowcase.
I slid into the bed trying not to disturb her slumber knowing she had to get up in a few short hours to go to work.  My shift at the hospital had been excruciatingly long today, having been on back to back twelve hour shifts that both ran well into the sixteenth hour.   Even though my body was exhausted my mind continued to whir with the events of today and the beauty that lay next to me.  I couldn’t help my fingers as they brushed gently over Esme’s face, moving a stay hair off of her cheek.
“Carlisle?” she mumbled, eyes fluttering open.  Guilt wracked my gut knowing that I had stolen some precious moments of sleep from her.
“Shhhh.  Go back to sleep.  I didn’t mean to wake you.”  Burrowing down into the covers, she rolls towards me and cuddles into my chest, abandoning the pillow for the real thing.  Chuckling, I hold her tight, breathing in the scent of her gardenia shampoo and the remainder of her cinnamon flavored toothpaste.  She’s warm and soft and everything that I ever imagined a home should be.   I can’t help but sigh loudly, making her pull away and glance up at me in the dark.
“Did something happen?  Why aren’t you sleeping?  Are you okay?”  Her flurry of questions are released at the same time as she sits up, appraising me skeptically.   She’s always been a worrier, a mom at heart.  Coming home hours after my shift, I’m sure she figured something went wrong at the hospital and was up worrying needlessly about it.
“Esme, I’m fine.  I was just appreciating you.  It was a contented sigh, not one that was going to precede a diatribe.”
“Oh, okay.” I seemed to have taken some of the wind out of her sleepy sails and she lay back down, fingering the sparse hair on my chest for a few moments before she stills and her breathing once again evens out.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?”  Her drowsy voice comes out of the darkness moments after I thought she had already drifted off.
“I’m not sleeping because every time I do I lose another six or seven hours of being with you.” I didn’t realize how incredibly cheesy that sounded until I’d actually said it.  I meant every word, but if any of the other doctors heard me say that to my wife, I would have been ridiculed endlessly.
“Carlisle, come here.  I’ll help you rid yourself of that ridiculous insomnia.”  I could feel her smile against my chest just as she tweaked my nipple lightly, indicating that perhaps she too needed some release to go back to sleep.
Leaning up, she straddles me, tugging her nightshirt over her head in one swift movement.  Any symptoms of exhaustion are long gone by the time she bends down to kiss me passionately, taking my lower lip between her teeth and tugging gently.
“Love me,” she moaned, setting herself down onto my almost instantaneous hard-on.  She must have been dreaming erotic things because she’s already wet and ready for me.
In the stillness of the early morning hours we make love slow and reverently, enjoying our uninterrupted time together, something that rarely happens these days. Every square inch of our bodies are touched, licked, nipped or caressed.  When we are joined as one, I can’t remember how I ever lived without this woman and I hope to never have to again.

By: busymommy

I brushed the hair from her face, watching her eyes move underneath her lids, the sheet across her breasts rising and falling with each breath she took. I never meant to fall in love with her. With all the baggage from my past that I still needed to unpack, examine and put away, I was convinced that I couldn’t be the man she needed, the man she deserved. Even still, here she laid a dreamy smile on her lips, the sheen from our lovemaking still on her skin, and my heart in her hands. She’d never asked for it, not once, content in what I’d been able to offer. I’d been so worried about settling the past, that I hadn’t realized until tonight, when she looked at me through lowered lashes, my future had fallen into my lap.

She shifted in her sleep, snuggling closer, her nose buried in the crook of my neck. With a deep breath, she sighed, my name falling from her lips, sounding for all the world like a symphony. I wrapped my arms around her, content to watch her sleep, feeling like I’d discovered a new world, an uncharted territory. Over the past weeks, I’d looked at her hundreds, probably thousands of times, but now, my heart full of love I haven’t declared, I saw her for the first time. It wasn’t her features; anyone could say she was beautiful. Instead, I thought back over all the little things she’d said and done, the things that had screamed ‘I love you’, if I’d only been willing to listen.

Her hand crept up to rest on my heart. Such a simple gesture, tender and full of promise. I kissed the top of her head, marveling again that she’d seen through all of my bullshit, and taken a chance on a broken man. And, as the sun peeked through the horizon, tendrils of light illuminating the face that had come to mean everything to me, I whispered words to fill her waning dreams.

BusyMommy will be along shortly with this week's inspirational prose.  Can't wait to see what she's come up with.

Until next week - stay inspired & keep writing

Late Night Encounters by: kyla713 (@kyla713)

Monday, May 23, 2011.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5253229/1/Late_Night_Encounters

Pairing: Edward and Bella

Summary: Lonely ER doc Edward Cullen goes online one night to relieve some tension, never expecting to find what was awaiting him. AH/possibly some OOC. Rated M for a reason.

Rating: M/NC-17

Status: complete

This is one of my all time favorite stories. It starts out with Edward as an ER doctor in Chicago, who feels like with the profession he chose, it doesn’t leave him time for a personal life. Emmett, his best friend, is always teasing him about his “lackluster sex life”. On one particular rough day for Edward, Emmett gives him a little note with a website for cybersex. At first Edward doesn’t want anything to do with it, but he really needs to get off and nothing is working. So… he decides to try it just to see what it’s all about. He creates an account and starts checking out the site. Suddenly, a chat window pops up from a BellaNova. The Grneyeddoc1981 and BellaNova start chatting and engage in cybersex for the first time, which inevitably opens up a whole new world for both of them.

“I’d just had the most amazing sexual experience of my life with a complete stranger.”

Then we have Bella, who is a college student in California. She has never done anything like what she did with the Grneyeddoc1981 before and can’t even say the words they used out loud…or even internally. She actually thought the sexual experience she had with him was a dream –a reeeeally good dream. It’s not until she sees the chat box still open on her laptop that she realizes it really happened.

“Wow, that was an amazing and extremely powerful dream. I really needed to get laid more often if the best sex I had was in a dream.

BellaNova and Grneyeddoc1981 begin an online relationship (cyber sex) which goes from chat windows, to phone calls, to webcams, to eventually meeting in person.

Will their relationship always be a late night encounter or will they find a way to be together? How will they possibly make it work living so far apart? How many obstacles will they have to go through before they can be together?

Read this story and find out how their relationship grows from just sexual gratification to something so much more. The best thing about this story is it’s complete, so no waiting around to find out what happens next.

Book Club - Windows on the World by Frédéric Beigbeder

Windows on the World by Frédéric Beigbeder

Buy it on Amazon HERE

«You know how it ends : everybody dies. »

This month, for my book review I had a hard time deciding if I was really going to reviw this book or not. You see, I'm not American, nobody I knew was affected by 9/11. I was 12 at the time, and truth be told, I didn't even know about the World Trade Center. But now that I'm ten years older, and that I've discovered a real interest for American history in general. I feel deeply sorry for what happened that day, and I have to admit that I'm pissed that people could decide to kill so many innocents without even thinking back. My roomie last year sort of forced me to go see Remember Me (for my birthday even. This wasn't very nice:p) I'm not going to comment on the movie in itself because it's not the point, but I literally cried at the end. I hadn't been spoiled at the time, I had no idea what was going to happen. Anyway.

This book, Windows on the World, was written by a French novelist, Frédéric Beigbeder. I don't usually like his works, but the subject of this one sounded interesting. Windows on the World was the name of a restaurant up on the 107 floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. This book tells the imaginery story of a divorced man who takes his two sons for breakfast up there. Every chapter is one minute of their life from the time the first plane crashed into the tower, right beneath them, thus cutting their chance to leave the building, and the moment when, well... until the end. I know some people may be put off by the subject in itself. I was drawn by the tragedy of this man who, until the end, wants to keep his (small) kids from the horror that is really going on around them. The narrative also alternates with a pseudo biography of the author himself, one year after the terrorist attack. His thoughts are highly philosophical, and even if his life can't be as tragic as the one of Smith, both narratives are just very good.

I leave you with this, and I'll be back next month with another book to share with you!

“I think a novelist who doesn't write realistic novels understand nothing of what is at stake in the world we live in.” Tom Wolfe.

A Burning Love by xxEllenCullenxx

Okay, guys, sorry this post is so late, I had a death in the family recently and I had a memorial service today so I was gone most of the day. Anyway the story I picked this week was  A Burning Love, and it’s Jared and Kim. It’s a complete story, that I haven’t gotten to finish yet, but I was so intrigued I had to share it with the rest of you all.
I’ve always wondered how things went with Jared and Kim. Did he bump into her in the hallway? Did she ask to borrow a pencil? This story is the tale of the love between the two of them from the beginning.
We hear from both Jared’s mind and Kim’s in the first chapter, and we even see the actual imprint.
I walked into my Maths classroom – staring at my feet. Suddenly I felt a sudden pull that seemed to emit from the far left of the room. I looked up in the direction the force was pulling me to. I found the object of the pull, her face was hidden by her long mahogany hair and she was writing or drawing in a small blue notebook. Her face suddenly lifted and I gasped at her. Her dark skin was smooth and free of blemishes, her full red lips stuck out in an attractive pout; her nose was smooth and angular. As I looked into her eyes, her dark penetrating gaze I felt almost free. All other obligations fell away, all responsibilities – all that mattered was this beautiful creature. Nothing mattered but her, not my brothers, or my mum, or myself. She was the sole reason for living and the only reason I was on this earth was to protect and love her in every way I could. I almost ran to my seat, I wanted to be nearer to her perfection – I sat so close that I could reach up and touch her , I wanted to. She didn't look at me once throughout the whole lesson. Why didn't she look at me? Why didn't she talk to me? Did she not like me? How would I cope if she turned away from me? The bell sounded and she stood up and packed her books, she was quite tall for the girls in La Push. My eyes followed the flawless shape of her – curves in all the right places.
I look forward to reading the ending to this story and see how things all plan out. Also if you like Harry Potter, Spirited Away, Host, Bridge to Terabithia, and Darkest Powers, this author writes those stories too. I’ll admit, I’m not sure what some of those are, but happy reading. And, one last thing, make sure you leave some reviews for this story, it only has 62, give it some love!

Contest Rec - Just a Kiss Contest

Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Calling all wolf lovers!!!!

This is a very important message from yours truly. As the "head" of the Wolf section of this wonderful blog, I am given the opportunity to talk to you about a very interesting contest which was launched last week.

Ladies, I introduce you to the Just a Kiss Contest!!!

Let’s be honest, we all like a good, steamy kiss. A well written kiss can often be hotter than the actual lemon, and that’s what we’re looking for: a kiss that’ll melt the panties right off of us. We want locked lips, tongues, roaming hands, and bodies pressed against each other. So get to it. The fandom thanks you.

Every love story begins with a kiss…
So give us one. Show us how just a kiss can change a life.

Here are some of the most important rules:
-Entries accepted from 6/10/2011 to 7/1/2011
-Writers are encouraged to have their entry beta'd.
-Word Limit is 10,000.
-One entry per person, collabs included.

-"While lemons are welcome, please keep in mind this is a contest around kissing."

-And, last but not least: "This is a wolf pack only contest. No sparkle!pires allowed (this includes Renesmee, folks)."

Well, I don't know you, but I'm feeling quite motivated about this contest! Can you write a wonderful kiss? Can you make it better than a lemon? Do you want a little challenge by writing about the wolf pack, by writing about characters you had never dreamed of writing about before? This is your chance, guys!!!

You'll see my little story hanging out with the other entries (when it'll be written of course...)

So! Get to work! Find a pairing, find a good situation, write a kiss and make it good!!!

Link to the contest: OVER HERE

Good luck, everybody!!!!
