I was born and raised a country girl so I completely love western stories. Don't judge. I love cowboys, growing up around some of them should have cured me of that but it didn't. So it shouldn't be surprising that I absolutely love Wild as the West by Ifcpalm. This isn't actually the first story like this I've read and after finishing one of my all time favorite fics Mail Order Bride by Lady Gwyend I was desperate for more. I stumbled upon this story in the most recent section of Twilighted and suddenly my addiction lived on! This story is interesting for several reasons. Not only is it a historic western fic but the way that she incorporated the twilight characters is quite unique. Most canon writers tend to have the twilight nomads as the villains (James and Victoria) or sometimes even Jacob. In this story James is Bella's lovable, protective, brother and quite possibly my favorite character ever! He doesn't really have any of the characteristics that other authors normally assign to him. He's not the cold calculating one instead it's Mike and I'm totally on board with that!
After their parents death James and Bella strike out west to start a new life. James has lined up a job at a ranch through his friend Jasper. Jasper works for the Cullens at their cattle ranch. James forgot to mention that Bella was coming along though. Thankfully Alice Cullen and Emmett welcome Bella with open arms hoping that she can help their housekeeper who is expecting a baby any day now. Their older brother's reaction to the new addition of Bella is...unexpected. Edward is immediately attracted to her which equals him pushing her immediately away...and quite rudely at that. It only takes him a short while, a trip to the bottom of a bottle and a stern talking to by his sister to realize that Bella is a woman that he shouldn't let go of. She's spirited and isn't afraid to put the stubborn and proud Edward in his place. She's everything he wanted and nothing he was looking for. She's perfect for him, but can he make her see that too?
So far this story is about 15 chapters in and I get the feeling we're only at the very tip of the iceberg. Bella and Edward have just begun their relationship so I can tell this is a slow burn type of story. Which is appropriate for the time period that it's set in. Back then you didn't really have random hook up sex. You courted a woman properly...well usually anyway. I can't wait for the next update because this last one left me hanging on the edge of my seat. Things are really starting to heat up and not just between our couple, although that's happening too ;-) So what happens when your life and love is as wild as the west? Well go find out.
So...since posting this I've been told that on fanfiction.net the story is up to 27 chapters... so now I'm off to read. and so should you :-)
